The Mitsubishi announced that the launch of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV in the U.S. market will be delayed until 2015.
Once in April we heard that the production of the Outlander PHEV stops due to problems in the batteries and now, the reason for this delay is again them. To be precise, not the batteries themselves but their production.
The main supplier is the company Lithium Energy Japan. In essence it is a joint venture of Mitsubishi itself with GS Yuasa Corporation. Initially, production was set to 2.000 packs of batteries per month but increased to 4.000 packs monthly and is expected to rise further in April 2014, probably in 5.000 packs. Based on the original plans, the Outlander PHEV would arrive in the U.S. before the end of 2014 but with the new data, the launch will not be earlier than 2015.
