The next generation of the Porsche Panamera is expected to go on sale in 2016 and will be based on a variation of the platform MSB of the VW Group. The same platform will use the Bentley to build the next, third generation, the Continental.
The new platform can accommodate cars with the engine mounted on the front axle and move the rear. Both cars will have the drivetrain very close to the front bulkhead, so as to achieve better balance and better handling through the fast bends.
The MSB platform is made of steel and aluminum, making the new Panamera lighter by 90 kg from the current generation. The four seats will be mounted low so that the car has a low center of gravity, which will improve the handling.
