This presentation serves two purposes. The first is to remind us that the German company engaged in the “electric” car many more years than, I remember most of the world and the second is to see some of the predecessors of the C-Class before presenting the new model.

Obviously, the majority of the world remembers the diesel and petrol versions, but the Mercedes-Benz presented the first electric 190E at the Geneva Motor Show in 1991. Moved by two motors 22 hp each performance fueled by sodium-nickel batteries. This first electric prototype, had a range of 110 km and weighed approximately 1,400 pounds.

Some years later, namely in 1993, Mercedes unveiled another electric vehicle. This time at the Frankfurt Motor Show. He had a motor that yield 48 horses and thanks to Zero-Emission Battery Research Activities (ZEBRA) batteries have the same autonomy with the first 190E. In the same report, they made their debut two hybrid vehicles (with a parallel system and one serial) who “gave important information about the presentation of hybrid technology in production cars of Mercedes-Benz several years later.”
