Once again, Toyota through Tetsuya Tada, employs the means their fans. The Japanese manufacturer has already indirectly give various concepts with improved engines such as Supercharged TRD U.S. and Twin-Charged Gazoo Racing.

But always stressed that these vehicles were just to show off hidden potential of the engine but it was not for mass production. Now, Tada, finally admitted that the team is preparing several ways to increase engine efficiency, one of which will surely find its way to the engine bay of the GT86.

We have already tried all possibilities and there are several prototypes tested in the premises of Toyota right now. A prototype is turbocharged engine has a larger displacement and the latter has a special hybrid system. All probabilities are examined

The Tada could not of course reveal more information, but sources say the choice of larger displacement engine is a 2.5 liter with a yield of about 250 hp. Obviously, this option is the most advantageous for the company while maintaining the character of 86 and reduces the possibility of stress the transmission system, the extra weight and complexity of the other two alternatives. This does not mean that the case of the turbo or hybrid system evolve in vain as the most likely to be placed in the next generation of the model.

Incidentally, the Tada said the 86′s replacement is already underway and hinted that it will be completely different car than the current, possibly even without the boxer engine. This if true says a lot about the future cooperation Toyota – Subaru.

Finally, do not forget that Toyota has already confirmed the rumors that develops a new four-cylinder turbo engine that will probably move the small SUV the Lexus . Who knows, maybe after the SUV, and come under the hood of 86. Time will tell.
