Mercedes-Benz plans to rapidly expand its range of hybrid cars, saying the future is preparing dozens of such models. First will be the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S500 Plug-in Hybrid, which will start its sales in 2014 and will put a “new standard in the luxury segment.”
Combines V6 3,5-liter petrol engine performance 333 hp and 480 Nm of torque, and an electric motor 80 kW (109 hp) powered by lithium-ion battery 8,7 kWh.
The car has an average fuel consumption of less than 4 l/100 km and 70 g/km emission of CO2. The petrol engine sends the traffic on the front wheels, while the electric motor to the rear, making the car-wheel.
Mercedes-Benz has not announced further details except that the hybrid system can be placed in four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines and a V6 petrol engines.
