Volkswagen Passat turns 40, company has sold over 20 million units

Celebrates 40 years since the first Volkswagen Passat went on sale. The first was in May 1973 when Volkswagen took the market the first generation of the Passat which was designed by Giorgio Giugiaro. The model remained on the market until 1980 and within 6.5 years sold 2.5 million units.

Later followed the redesigned model that was first wore turbo engine, all-wheel drive, 5-cylinder engine, manufactured in Belgium, Brazil, Spain, Mexico, South Africa and Japan.

Followed even 5 generations, and today the market is the 7th generation. The Volkswagen from 1973 to today, 2013, has sold more than 20 million Passat.
