On July 29th, the BMW will officially unveil the 2014 BMW i3, its first pure electric car and the first model i brand and now were known officially technical characteristics.

The i3 time an electric motor on the rear axle performance 125 kW (170 hp) with 250 Nm of torque, which weighs 50 pounds. Combined with a single speed transmission with a 0-60 km/h can do in 3.7 seconds, 0-100 km/h in 7.2 seconds, with top speed stands at 150 km/h. Will cost between € 35.000 and € 40.000 in Germany, and has a range between 130 to 160 km.

As for the i3 with range-extended engine , will wear a small two-cylinder petrol engine derived from a bike BMW. This is the 652 ml GS efficiency of 34 horses which will charge the battery in order to extend the autonomy of i3 to 300 km, with respect to the 160 miles of pure electric version. The engine is mounted at the rear, adjacent to the motor.

The batteries can charge by 80% within half an hour using a quick charger (50 kW), while using simple household outlet, the batteries are charging 100% in 8 hours, while the home charger BMW i Wallbox, the batteries are fully charged within 6 hours.

The first pure electric car by BMW is not significantly different from the original. The production version of course does not have the glass doors, having been replaced by conventional ones.

These have been placed even further back, making them smaller in size. More conventional design also guards, light fixtures and mirrors. Also, the line of the rear window is not a straight line, with BMW’s designers have chosen an asymmetric design, the rear windows are positioned lower than those of the front doors.

It weighs 1,195 pounds thanks to CFRP chassis, having a weight ratio of 50:50 front-rear. The suspension consists of MacPherson struts in front and multi (5) back links and clicks on land with wheels 19-inch with tires size 155/70.

The BMW is making significant efforts to attract customers who will buy the new BMW i3 and outside that will give the possibility to rent a conventional model of the BMW for a few days a year, but will install optional devices quick charge at home for future buyers.

England will start from £ 35.000 (€ 40.800) for pure electric version and from £ 38.000 (€ 44.300) for the range-extender version. The earliest traditions are expected to begin by the end of October, with the BMW has already received more than 100,000 applications to test drive the car.
