Volkswagen Passat TDI sets new Guinness World Record for fuel efficiency, averaged 77.99 mpg US

Volkswagen has finally managed to set a new Guinness World Record autonomy with a Volkswagen Passat TDI (U.S.-Spec). The two drivers, Wayne Gerdes and Bob Winger, covered traveled 13.071 km within two weeks, passing by the 48 states in the USA, having average consumption of 3.02 l/100 km, breaking the previous record, of 3.4 l/100 km.

The Passat TDI once a 2.0-liter TDI engine performance 140 hp and 320 Nm of torque mated to a manual transmission 6-speed. Officially, Volkswagen gives average consumption of 5.5 l/100 km.
