The McLaren believes the increase in sales of its models in China will help to double its sales in the Asian region, that they amounted to 25%, while in 2012, only 10% of global McLaren’s sales came from the Asia region.
According to Mirko Bodiga, Regional Director Asia Pacific McLaren, McLaren wants to sell 1,400 cars globally in 2013. To help increase sales in China, McLaren will open four new dealerships in China in 2013, and another 4 will open by mid 2014.
The reason the McLaren and the other companies give so much interest in the Chinese market, it is because analysts predict that the market of China will become the largest luxury car market in the world by 2016, surpassing even that of America. For 2013, the market for luxurious cars in China would be expected to fluctuate between 4000 to 5,000 units.
And while McLaren gives great foothold in China, the Lexus seems in no hurry to become a big player in the market, having followed a more conservative approach.
The 2012 Lexus sold 64,000 cars in China, while BMW sold 326,000 cars. The Lexus, unlike the Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, does not manufacture any car on Chinese soil, which means that the models are subject to import tax.
The Japanese company is not worried and initially wants to increase the number of delegations to China, which in 2012 touched just the 99, the same time that the delegations of Mercedes-Benz exceed 250.
