Detroit Electric announced a delay in production of its first car, Detroit Electric SP:01, at least one month.
The CEO of Detroit Electric North America, Don Graunstadt, said the delay was due to protracted negotiations for renting space at facilities in Michigan, of Plymouth Township. Despite the problems the Graunstadt said the company is “moving forward” and hopes to begin production in September.
The Detroit Electric SP:01 has already received 35 orders and direction of an electric motor mounted in the center, performance 150 kW (204 hp) with 225 Nm of torque. The body is made of carbon and stylistically borrows several elements from the Lotus Exige.
The company describes it as the fastest electric production car in the world, with 0-100 km/h can do in 3.7 seconds, with top speed of 249 km/h. It weighs 1,067 pounds with the motor can be combined with either a 2-speed automatic transmission or a 4-speed manual. The batteries powering the electric motor, has a capacity of 37 kWh, fully charged in 4.3 hours using simple household outlet, and give autonomy to 306 km Detroit Electric SP:01.
The brakes consist of trays of AP front and rear Brembo, Don rims 16″ front and 17″ rear tire size 175/55 and 225/45 respectively. It has ABS, energy recovery system under braking, while equipped with an interactive system of charging / discharging that converts SP:01 in a mobile unit of energy, the owner can use the car battery as a generator to power the house with power.
