For the first time we see mule testing a new 2015 Toyota Prius, which will be presented in 2015. Stylistically the next Prius perhaps lost wedge design, so very different from the cars of the previous two generations.
Design will be influenced by the original NS4 and as far as the purely mechanical part, the new Prius will be cheaper than the current, will be built on a new modular platform on which Toyota will build several new models. The C platform will make the Prius weigh 70 pounds less.
The hybrid with the most sales worldwide will continue to wear the 1.800-lt hybrid engine, which will improve. It has a smaller motor but it will produce more power, improving thus the performance and average consumption.
Goal of Toyota is the new Prius will have an average consumption of 3.1 l/100 km and 70 g/km emission of CO2. However do not expect to wear a Lithium-Ion battery, since it seems that Toyota will keep the batteries nickel hydride one and engineers believe they can manage them better.
Interestingly, the fact that the new Prius will be four-wheel drive after having an electric motor mounted in each wheel. The system will operate at speeds up to 60 km/h thus improving the ride quality of the car in the conditions you need four-wheel drive, like the wet and snowy roads.
