The Volvo began production of the new four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines at its plant in Skövde, Sweden, in which were upgrades over the past two years. All new four-cylinder engines will be produced in new, same production line. The Derek Crabb, Vice mechanical assembly of Volvo said:
This is a benchmark in the history of Volvo. With the new family of engines focus on two key parameters-the driving pleasure and fuel economy.
During development of the new engines were starting our customers, wanting to offer these reduced consumption of fuel, the lower environmental load and driving enjoyment at an attractive price. At the same time, however, we had to create a basis for the development of new technologies, which in turn will ensure world-class fuel economy.
The new engines of Volvo, despite having smaller dimensions and smaller displacement, have better performance than today’s six-cylinder engines, while offering better fuel economy than the current generation of four-cylinder engines.
Volvo has set a target in 2015, all new petrol and diesel engines, to replace the 8 engines that are hosted on three different platforms. In 2013 will be built 20,000 engines, with the weekly production at the end of the year, amount to 2,000 units. The first models will be equipped with new engines will be the S60 , V60 , XC60 , V70 and S80 , which will wear them in the fall.
