In the context of increasing sales to 500,000 units annually for the U.S. market by the end of the decade, Subaru invest $400 million in the plant in Lafayette, Indiana city to begin construction of the new Subaru Impreza in 2016. Latest reports say that about half of this investment will be for a new paint department, while another large chunk of the money will be used to expand the assembly line to allow an increase in capacity.

Currently, this factory Subaru is responsible to build about 200,000 vehicles of the models Legacy, Outback and Tribeca each year (not including about 100.000 Toyota Camry). The production of Subaru cars will increase to 300,000 units this requires additional 900 new jobs.
