According to latest reports the Volkswagen this year is developing a carbon roof to offer it as an extra for very fast versions of the new Golf. The aim of course is to make the car lighter, improving consumption and to lower the center of gravity with beneficial effects on the behavior of the car.

The roof is expected to reduce the overall weight of about 8.2 to 9 pounds, with the Volkswagen works in progress to waterproof joints to shield the side pieces and the windshield.

Of course, even tariff there is no indication nor exactly which models will be available with the upcoming Golf R version is taken for granted and probably in Performance package Golf.
