A few days before the start of the 2013 season at Silverstone, Porsche unveiled its 2014 Porsche 911 RSR official (type 991 ). The RSR will defend the colors of the brand in the GTE-Pro category under the World Endurance Championship, the World Endurance Championship (WEC). Of course so will the 24 Hours of Le Mans, as part of the WEC, but however much you despite the FIA, will be the only race with the media coverage and all the teams measure their success this season.
The new 2014 Porsche 911 RSR builds on the 991 type so that the differences with the previous Porsche 911 GT3 RSR are substantial. For example, the battle is longer than 10 cm, the suspension triangles are new and get a gearbox 6 speed lighter and selection via steering wheel paddles. The engine, however, remains the 4.0-liter flat six that develops 997 hp 460, is almost the last of the blocks in active Metzger.
Since weight is the enemy number one of the benefits, Porsche made a massive use of carbon fiber. The front and rear wings, bonnet and rear doors, fenders, spoiler and dashboard are carbon fiber. As a result the center of gravity is much lower than in the previous RSR, among other benefits. To lose weight, Porsche was not limited to the use of carbon fiber. Have also been used particularly thin polycarbonate panes, while batteries are used in the RSR lithium ion.
Exterior new 2014 Porsche 911 RSR is dominated by the large front air intakes. And now the radiator is located in a central position so as Porsche, is now much more efficient. This not only benefits the engine and performance but also to the pilot via a more powerful air conditioning. Finally, Porsche adopted a sober decoration commemorating the 50th anniversary of eternal 911. Photo right: Hartmut Kristen, Head of Porsche Motorsport (left), and Olaf Manthey.
