Detroit Electric again rise from the ashes to make another Lotus electric. Lotus, manufactured just one electric car (the extended range Evora 414E) has, however, caused a few. The most famous of these is the Tesla Roadster, based on the Elise. It also produced a prototype for Chrysler, the Circuit EV, which was none other than a Lotus Europa electric. A few years ago Detroit Electric Lotus Elise also had an “electrified”. This year, Detroit Electric try again with a limited edition of an electric sports car based on a Lotus. Sure.
In a way makes sense. A Lotus is, by definition, very light which helps keep the overall weight of the car at a reasonable fork once installed batteries. In addition, Albert Lam, Detroit Electric who directs, is a former executive of Lotus, which helps when integrating a model of the British brand in the equation. This time, the choice seems to be the new Lotus Exige S.
The standard Lotus Exige S equips a Toyota V6 supercharged that delivers 350 hp. Obviously, in the version of Detroit Electric, the V6 leaves your site to electric motors. Detroit Electric has not revealed the power, or the capacity of the power unit of the model.
But conversion to electric car Lotus is not the only problem facing the company, the Lotus Exige S is not approved in the U.S. for their airbags not meet federal standards. If items be replaced with approved, the Detroit Electric car far exceed the $75,000 it costs a Lotus Exige S. Will market if they develop the car?
For now, want to revive the company, raising a factory in Michigan for up to 2,500 cars a year. The intention is to present the Detroit Electric Car in America a few weeks before exposing the Shanghai Motor Show. Luck.
